There is an interesting article written on Portfolio.com entitled Obsene Losses. It talks about some of the challenges facing big-budget porn companies like Vivid Entertainment in the face of growing amateur porn web sites such as YouPorn.
The article also discusses how Vivid was interested in purchasing YouPorn but eventually declined. Steve Hirsch, founder of Vivid, felt that the path to monetize YouPorn was unclear, the legal headaches of free-for-all porn were too great, and that YouPorn just did not fit Vivid’s business model of big-budget, high quality porn.
